Bringing Nature into Design

There are so many elements to consider when designing a space- aesthetic, color, size, texture, finish, etc. As designers, our goal is to curate a space with a variety of elements that not only mesh together, but complement one another. One of the most unique ways to add character and pull together your space is by incorporating natural elements. Let's walk through some of our favorite ways to bring some nature into your home.

1. Furniture
Consider choosing furniture made from natural materials like wood, rattan, natural fibers, stone, etc. Using materials found in nature means each piece is one of a kind which adds a unique sense of character. Wooden stumps or living edge coffee tables are great examples of the intersection between nature and design. The natural tones and organic edges create an instant statement in any home.

2. Raw Materials
Another way to add nature to your space is by choosing home decor pieces that are made with raw materials. By decorating with pieces made from natural elements such as wood, terra cotta and stone, your space will have an added depth that couldn't be achieved with man made materials. Another plus is that natural materials typically change over time, so you can embrace the organic character that their aging adds without needing to worry about the little imperfections.

3. House Plants
Bringing nature into your home doesn't get much easier than this. Incorporating live greenery throughout your home creates subtle variation of color while also allowing the space to feel more put together. Start with a low maintenance fern or succulent and watch your love for live design elements grow from there.

4. Exposed Fire Wood
This rustic style makes the space feel more "homey" while still feeling very intentional from a design perspective. The warm wood tones bring the space together and we love that the easy access to the wood provides an element of functionality as well.

5. Fresh Flowers and Greenery
Quick, easy and something you can do today! Adding a vase of fresh flowers or greenery to your space instantly elevates a room and adds a natural element of color and texture. Try hanging some fresh eucalyptus from your shower head with twine to add a beautiful pop of color along with a spa-like aroma when the steam seeps into the leaves. Trust us on this one!

There are so many ways to bring nature into your home. If your space is feeling a bit sterile, we recommend starting with some house plants, greenery, and decor pieces made out of natural materials to add some warmth. Bringing more natural elements into your home is a great way to elevate your space by adding color, texture and depth.
