2022 Bathroom Design Trends

When renovating a bathroom, there are hundreds of decisions to be made. From choosing which direction the floor tiles will lay to the metal finish for the sink drain- good design is all in the details. With so many decisions to be made, one of the most common questions we get as designers is how to implement the current trends popping up all over Pinterest and Instagram feeds without “time stamping” the home. With all the stunning trends we are already seeing this year, we wanted to give you a run down on the bathroom designs that we can see sticking around far beyond 2022…

Vintage Furniture
We love adding a one of a kind, vintage piece of furniture to any space to add character. A small vintage chair or wooden stool is the perfect way to fill a dead corner or add a statement piece in a bathroom without taking up too much space. Slightly weathered furniture also adds a bit of warmth and charm; it's a double win if the piece adds functionality, too!

Checkered Tile
Checkered tile might be considered a trend today but this style is known to be one of the first patterns ever used. While we love neutral flooring choices such as hardwood, checkered tile adds just the right amount of character and charm while remaining versatile enough to blend in with any style over the years. Modern, traditional, luxurious or casual- checkered tile fits right in.

Shower Curtains
Although shower curtains have not been the preferred design choice for many years, we see this functional decor feature coming back in style in a sophisticated way. Switching our your shower curtain is an easy way to immediately change the style and feel of your bathroom. Consider hanging your curtains higher to the ceiling and choosing a higher end fabric to create a luxurious and relaxing atmosphere. Trust us on this one!

Heavily Veined Marble
We don’t pick favorites but if we did, this might be the one. We are so happy to see heavily veined marble take center stage this year. Slabs are truly a natural piece of art— each one so different from the next. If using heavily veined marble, we recommend selecting simple furniture and decor for the remainder of the space to let the marble shine. We have always loved the process of choosing slabs for a space and this newfound love for dramatic marble is the icing on the cake for us.

Shower Pony Walls
Typically, our first instinct when remodeling an older bathroom is to remove the pony wall- until now! Pony walls are coming back in 2022 and we are loving the unique feel this feature brings to a bathroom. Replacing a glass shower door with a pony wall can surprisingly make the space feel more open and organic. Not to mention the endless design opportunities the wall creates such as rounding out the edges or wrapping the wall in stone or tile to add some character.

Mounted Pedestal Sinks
We are loving this modern twist on a timeless classic. Having a wall-mounted pedestal sink or minimalistic vanity in a guest or powder bath is the perfect way to make a statement in a space where storage is not crucial. This simplistic style leaves room for some fun hardware, mirrors, furniture, etc.

And that’s a wrap! As you might be able to tell, many of these trends are refined versions of classic styles that have been core to design for years. With the right design concept, these trends have the ability to strike the perfect balance between statement and timeless. Needless to say, we truly can’t wait to channel some of this inspiration in our projects this year.
